There's Eden Behind the Gates
Everybody loves my angel.
She’s smothered, wings torn off.
Left to wait for our rapture.
Left to fall with us.
She’s in our pit, hiding from God.
She walks like we do, armless, toothless.
I like to think she’s watching me,
Protecting me, guiding me,
Away from the long armed mylings,
The jubilant fires and churning demons…
But I know she’s not.
There’s a dragon in the sky,
Killing everybody (but it never flies).
There’s a serpent on the ground,
And a man and woman made of clay, unfound.
There’s an apple in the tree,
And another leper has been set free.
My angel has been murdered and mutilated.
I am left alone amongst myselves.
She’s smothered, wings torn off.
Left to wait for our rapture.
Left to fall with us.
She’s in our pit, hiding from God.
She walks like we do, armless, toothless.
I like to think she’s watching me,
Protecting me, guiding me,
Away from the long armed mylings,
The jubilant fires and churning demons…
But I know she’s not.
There’s a dragon in the sky,
Killing everybody (but it never flies).
There’s a serpent on the ground,
And a man and woman made of clay, unfound.
There’s an apple in the tree,
And another leper has been set free.
My angel has been murdered and mutilated.
I am left alone amongst myselves.
