The Cardinal
Yesterday
I said I had not seen a cardinal
in a while
as though
speaking directly to the universe
Today
I looked out the back window
and right then
a cardinal
landed on the Earth
and leapt onto the steps
and onto a stone on the steps
And looked into my soul.
