Best Laid Plans
And I tapped out
My lonely tune
Manic & lovely
Like a chef’s knife
Chopping parsley
On a cold flat board
And my fan was a hero
As I slapped it into submission
Whirring too proud
And every mouthful
Was more than a liar
I cynical nonetheless
And fires burned
Far away from me
Except my trusty oven
Crumbs fall & hide
Am I that scary?
Gathering some of them in
Unsweeping them
From under whose carpet
A little for the birds
They peck & call
In fleeting innocence
And I play favourites
My lonely tune
Manic & lovely
Like a chef’s knife
Chopping parsley
On a cold flat board
And my fan was a hero
As I slapped it into submission
Whirring too proud
And every mouthful
Was more than a liar
I cynical nonetheless
And fires burned
Far away from me
Except my trusty oven
Crumbs fall & hide
Am I that scary?
Gathering some of them in
Unsweeping them
From under whose carpet
A little for the birds
They peck & call
In fleeting innocence
And I play favourites
