Icarus
It is as if you want to make me smaller, that you want to cut away at me until I am nothing but bones and bile.
It is as if I disappoint you, that I am the daughter hidden back in the shadows, Banned from the light.
You want to pry open my ribcage until I am small enough to fit into the palm of your hands.
I try so hard to please you, to be as beautiful as you want me to be,
But I am flying too close to the sun, and like Icarus I am doomed to burn up all of your fake love.
I am running on empty, and my stomach is crying out for me to come and save her from you.
I feel as if I will never be good enough for you, that you will not love me until I am nothing but bones and bile.
I am like Icarus, flying too close to the sun, and my wings are burning up too fast,
Too fast to for you to catch me and Too fast for you to even care.
And like Icarus, I am doomed to fall to into a sea that will swallow me whole.
It is as if I disappoint you, that I am the daughter hidden back in the shadows, Banned from the light.
