Great Unrealistic Expectations
My expectations of reality for the longest time,
were like the movie portrayal of New York City.
It was this magical place where everyone had high rises, and
were glamorous magazine writers or beautiful bohemian poets.
I believed that I could go to the speak easies and coffee shops and
discuss intellectual ideals over steaming cappucino cups.
I always dreamed that life was like the film version of NYC,
where at the end of the movie, my lover kisses me in the rain while the music plays, then cut and scene.
and the credits roll.
I have been to NYC and as magical of a place that it is,
none of those things happened to me.
But life isn't about fairy tale endings.
Its about writing your story, a script of your own.
There are twists and turns and multiple high points that leave your mind blown.
And just when you think it is all over, a new scene starts.
So no, New York City is not the film version we grew up to believe.
It is okay though, because there are stories of magic of which Hollywood will never own the rights - the stories of you and me.
