Fishes can swim

Fishes can swim,
but I can't— never learned how to.
I'm like the sunk end of the water;
simple and exploring.

I'd rather leave swimming to the fishes,
than me putting two feet in the deep end.

People don't know this,
but I've never been underwater.
The thought of drowning terrifies me;
gasping for air while water engulfs me.

I'd rather leave swimming to the dolphins,
than me dunking my head underneath water.

When I was a little boy,
I was scared of getting my hair washed in the bathtub.
My mother would use a bucket to dump water on my head;
I thought even that was as close to drowning.

I'd rather leave swimming to the sharks,
than me diving into the ocean.
