I Wish Against The Tides
I want to hold your hand
As we walk down the lane
It would be so grand
If we kissed in the rain.
Let's go see a moving picture
And escape life’s monotony.
Escape through a fissure
We’ve made with each other’s company.
We could go to the park
And play hide-and-seek.
And before it gets dark,
We’ll watch the sun hide its cheek.
We could go for a drive
To no specific destination
Talk over things we contrive
Enjoying pleasant conversation(s).
I could ramble for hours on the things we could do,
And I pray they’ll someday occur.
But the powers that be and the pandemic, you see
Have put a wedge in our dreams, that’s for sure.
But I still have hope
That I grasp onto tight.
And I hang from that rope
Through the day and all night.
I will never stop fighting
I will never lose heart
I’ve put my dreams into writing
And wish we were no longer apart.
But with dreams we remain
They cannot yet come true,
So our tears spill like rain
And our hearts fade to blue.
As we walk down the lane
It would be so grand
If we kissed in the rain.
Let's go see a moving picture
And escape life’s monotony.
Escape through a fissure
We’ve made with each other’s company.
