Past vs Future

Past versus Future.
Who will win?
Only time can tell
when the war ends.

I look to the future
only to find
the past is still there
haunting my mind.

The past is my prison.
It keeps me barred in
making me miserable,
more vulnerable to sin.

I try running away
but I get nowhere.
It keeps me in darkness
until I no longer care.

Then along comes a light.
A hand reaches for mine.
I feel peace and love,
grace so divine.

I hear a voice tell me
never worry, my child.
I feel compassion,
so raw and wild.

I look to the future.
Now I find
the past, no longer there.
He has freed my mind.
