What makes a poet?
Who qualifies
as a poet?
Who knows?
Wish I knew.

WHY?

I attempt to be one,
associate with,
read and enjoy
as many as possible,
it is enjoyable and healing.

WHAT?

The poet is many things;
I doubt if we'll
ever know all a
poet is or is becoming
or has been in the past.

No two poets
are cut from the
same piece of cloth,
interpret the world
and events the same way.

WHAT?

A poet may be an
adventurer who dares
to explore the unknown,
forbidden places
and meanings of life.

A poet may be a broken
heart filled with the need
to heal through confession
or atonement through words
and honest forgiveness of self.

A poet may be a rebel
unhappy with status quo,
the direction of politics,
and man's abuse of his
neighbor and fellowman.

A poet may be a dreamer,
romantic, creator of fantasies,
out of step with the cadence
of the times; marching to
his own music...an explorer.

A poet may live in a closet,
deep in the pages
of a notebook or locked
in the basement of a
computer or filing cabinet.

A poet may be a person
who has not, or will not,
confess or admit they
are, or want to be
a poet...they downplay.

A poet may be a person
on sexual adventures,
daring to explore the outer
limits of erotic pleasures,
without gender biases.

WHAT
is a poet?
