another soldier

the warring they    
              the dying you    
                              the weeping we    
                                             the orphaning the children    
the widowing the mothers    
               the tragedy of enmity    
                              the sacrilege of sanctity    
                                             the villainy of vanity    
the paucity of pride    
               the fire of ire    
                              the desire of ages    
                                             the folly of sages    
the silence of the grave    
               the death toll of the brave    
                              the scarcity of levity    
                                             the wear of war    
another soldier lost    
               the living count the cost    
                              the flood of blood    
                                             wasted like mud    
and if i could    
               and as i should    
                              the war would cease today    
                                             death to death's cabaret
