I can really relate to this poetic gem my poet, due in part I am part Mulatta ( from my father’s Mulatto-linage) French Haitian Creole (My mother/grann’s birthright). And I was born in Santo Domingo my grandfather was part Mestizos. Then comes the language barriers when I visit New Orleans, or France, I have not returned to the Dominican Republic since coming to America, however, it becomes agonizing interchanging between French and English, I do not converse in Spanish, well, I’ve tried, the fluency of its outcome was acceptable and then it became tedious, there is a story behind that.
Then not to mention when you are trying to set those boundaries of self-identity and filling out any government forms which ask of ethnicity, unfortunately, I must place ‘other’ and write in French Haitian Creole. This is a very courageous musing to bring to the surface and worth the ponder when it pertains to people who face these words above in similarity

I appreciate the depth you bring SKC. Thank you for spilling a little of yourself and your journey. I traveled to Punta Cana quite a bit as a kid. I don't remember much being I was a kid, no older than 7. The pictures and stories are great though.
