Could've Been

I could've been the one,
To help you turn this round,
To build a life worth living,
A safe place to heal,

You couldn't see me there,
Waiting for a sign,
That you would tear down your walls,
You tore me down instead,

You demanded apologies,
Demanded my soul,
Never saw the times I tried,
Only ever saw me fail,

I crumbled and fell
Lost myself in despair,
Still you demanded more,
Seeing what wasn't true,

Self hatred amplified,
Defeatism setting in,
Looking at myself through your eyes,
I couldn't bare to look anymore,

I could've been the one,
But I can stand it no more,
I'll walk this path alone,
To find the parts I've lost,

One day I'll be whole,
I'll make sure you see,
The man I could've been,
Had you let me be.
