WHOSE NAME IS WRITTEN IN THE WATER
Today I walked into the ocean
Shin deep in cool brine
The soles of my feet digging trenches
In the sea smoothed sand
And perched precariously on one leg
With the other I traced my name
In small, cursive strokes
Just below the water’s surface
An infinitesimal imprint
A quiet confessional
A name that existed for a moment
And no longer, before the sea swept it away
