WHOSE NAME IS WRITTEN IN THE SAND
Today, I wrote my name in the sand
In big, block letters
I proclaimed my identity
My presence
Affirming my value and my rights
My right to be happy
To be safe
To be calm
So why do I wish
That sometimes the ocean’s waves
Will pick me up
Smooth me out
And wash me away
Just like the rising tide will do to my name
Tonight?

This painted such a lovely image (and an affirming image) of you writing your name physically in the sand as a positive act of self, and I just loved that. It felt very grounded and connected.
It was interesting that the poem moved on into a place of questioning and I think that’s only natural after a moment of clarity.
