He's a reflection of me
He's a reflection of you
He's a reflection of everything
The two of us have went through
He's a reflection of our lives
A reflection of our strife
A reflection of our stands
But he's his own man
He's more than just you and I
More than just you and I
He'll make us laugh
And you know he'll make us cry
When we look at him, he makes us proud
We shout from the rafters
We shout clear and loud
He's our reflection

Indeed. Children often are their parents being taught to do things differently so as not to make the same mistakes.
I like that lines 9 & 10 are almost identical as well. It comes across as a lyrical chorus, giving me as the reader the added impression that you are celebrating.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. You always hope your son will take the best of both of you, and somehow make it work for himself. Nothing makes a parent feel prouder than seeing that he succeeded. Works for daughters too, I just didn't raise any.

You hope they take the best parts of you, and your spouse, but you also want them be themselves, and somehow mix traits all around and make it work for them. Really makes you feel good when it works.
