Presumed Innocent

Sweaty sleepless cells
no daylight to tell
the passing of dead time
have I already been found guilty
of alleged crime?
No fresh air no chance to clean
missed meals of malnutritious microwave cuisine
two nights two days in the same stinking clothes
looking my worst as the court bus rolls
No I must not speak for I have given the right
to a dutiless solicitor to take up the fight
In and out the court resumes
stood in convicted grey
can you honestly say
my innocence will be presumed?

Are the police above the law?
as they step on ‘the easy to ignore’
then plead to the magistrates command
to place me on remand
who put protocol above the truth
behind bars I cannot gather proof
I must fight my case with both hands tied
as the system takes me for a ride
Removed me from my life with haste
leaves one with a bitter taste
or maybe that’s the pepper spray illegally consumed
Has my innocence been at all presumed?

Written for all the people who do not matter,
‘the easy to ignore’
