There ought to be a course in first love, warning of the trappings.  Of course it might ruin the organic spirit of that first taste but it would be good to know.  Spirited ink

first love is almost always incredibly heart-breaking, however necessary for growth. I too wish there was a course I could have taken to protect myself better. Thank you for commenting!

This made me think of the different symbolism between the butterfly and the moth. While the butterfly is seen as this omen of new starts and beautiful living, moths have become symbols of death, being very much creatures of the darkness always looking for the light. So to hear the butterfly described as evil I found particularly poignant, showing that everything beautiful isn’t necessarily what it seems.

I felt the butterfly being seen as "evil" or two-sided would better express how love can be equally positive and negative (despite how most ignore the negatives), I feel like a moth wouldn't have given the same effect. I love that you noticed that! Thank you for commenting!

Yup, first love is a bit of a doozy.  I'm glad I experienced that though, I love writing from that place where all the bad emotions go.
