commonwealth avenue
i fell in love with you on commonwealth avenue
the sky has never been quite so blue
stars will never shine as bright as you
all those long nights filled with elation
getting completely lost in conversation
memories i’ve frozen in time
because i know i couldn’t press rewind
baking cake in your apartment
spilling coke zero on your carpet
spontaneous adventures throughout the city
simultaneous smiles walking for miles went by so quickly
how fast we inhaled those tasty eclairs
or ran around aimlessly in harvard square
not matter how far we’d go at any time
we could still see the citgo sign
the cherry blossoms in bloom
reminded me you were leaving soon
when i wrote you that book you should of seen the look on your face
and how you quickly you made the space to proudly display
holding hands every day down your hallway
these memories will live with me always
you went back home at the end of may
said our goodbyes and watched you walk away
with teary eyes we went our separate ways
with the purest of intentions
with every beat from my heart
i wanted to make it work not to mention
even though we were worlds apart
i tried to make it work but the more we’d video chat the more it would hurt
i felt so far away from the heart inside you helped grow so intimately
i’m not myself lately there’s something wrong with me
i called you and selfishly broke it off and said i needed time to grieve
because without you by my side i felt like i couldn’t breathe
there’s nothing else i felt i could do
the distance was killing me
i never intended on losing you
i wasn’t strong enough to wait for you
don’t come looking for me i don’t deserve you to
i still look at the pictures i took of you in your graduation gown
thinking about that last walk we took around town
to this day
everything just replays
wishing you could of stayed
regretting that i walked away
relationships may decay
twin flames always find a way
the sky hasn’t been quite as blue
stars will never shine as bright as you
