A Thousand Cranes
I can love you in secret
and keep all my pieces inside
you'll fit right in the nooks
that all of the others left behind
Oh, I've done this a thousand times
I've rehearsed all the lines
played out the endings and know
we would have never been
and you would have never been mine
I can gaze at the stars
and dance with the fire
but it's not the same
'cause I've been losing you
watching you slip by the hour
And no, I've never had strength
I've never had power
this world works in cruel ways
to keep everyone apart
and I've already lost again
oh I've already lost again
I never folded you a crane
or told you I loved the way
you said my name
though I've made over a thousand
I don't think I want to make
a thousand more
They're torn apart anyways
tossed and abandoned
like a ship without gold-
I'm a ship without gold
and keep all my pieces inside
you'll fit right in the nooks
that all of the others left behind
Oh, I've done this a thousand times
I've rehearsed all the lines
played out the endings and know
we would have never been
and you would have never been mine
I can gaze at the stars
and dance with the fire
but it's not the same
'cause I've been losing you
watching you slip by the hour
And no, I've never had strength
I've never had power
this world works in cruel ways
to keep everyone apart
and I've already lost again
oh I've already lost again
I never folded you a crane
or told you I loved the way
you said my name
though I've made over a thousand
I don't think I want to make
a thousand more
They're torn apart anyways
tossed and abandoned
like a ship without gold-
I'm a ship without gold
