DA NANG TOWN

I'm a soldier, first tour, out on 'liberty'
(R&R as it's called) by South China Sea.
Been baptised under fire of the Vietcong;
it's left me briefly shaken yet now feeling strong.

Let's live it up, let's live it up,
they tell me
Let's live it up, there will be no stopping.
I didn't want to go to war, not go to that war
-but I think I'm going to enjoy that war, enjoy that war....

There's a girl in that bar making eyes at me,
tells me she's got a room we can go and be
together and alone, if girl you've not got -
which with me was the case; now I'd found a slot, for...

Getting it up, getting it up,
she was easy.
Getting it up, there will be no stopping.
I' didn't want to go to war, not go to that war -
but I think I'm going to enjoy that war, now they've let me....

Now I'm about to lose my virginity,
got my girl's hand around my rigidity
as we're facing each other, completely undressed.
We tumbled into bed, we kissed and caressed.

Getting it up, getting it up,
was so easy
Getting it up, my cherry was popping.
I didn't want to go to war, didn't want to go to war -
but I think I'm going to enjoy that war, none can stop me...

I woke up next to her at the light of dawn,
and the sound of many a passed taxi's horn.
I'd fulfilled a bet made, between-buddies plan,
that this first tour would make small-town boy a man.

I'm getting up, yes getting up
Life's so easy
I'm getting up, to the new day dawning
I didn't want to go to war, didn't want to go to war -
but I think I'm going to enjoy that war,  none can stop me...

The view of the harbour, more of her body.
met my eyes as she stepped from the sheets to me,
On my shoulder she leaned, hand rubbed my right side
She smiled into my eyes like a radiant bride.

To me looking up. life's looking up,
free and easy.
To come back alive is a victory
I didn't want to go to war, didn't want to go to war -
but I think I'm going to enjoy that war,  none can stop me...
