Ex-Friends

Once upon a time it was “us”
We vowed we’d be best friends forever,
Had so many good years & even more good laughs,
But life changes fast just like the weather.
“Things change, people change, love grows, comes and goes”
Friendships get tested and the real get exposed,
As does the temporary surface level bullshit I suppose,
Things fall out of balance & it’s out of our control.

Though we’re here now, I’ll always wish you well,
Things got hard and since then this friendship has failed,
Maybe it’s for our best, only time will really tell.
 
It’s true that you only get a few real friends in each lifetime,
Most people come to teach lessons, only to bail during hard times.
It look some time for me to open my eyes,
No love lost, it was simply just our time.
Time to say goodbye,
I required more than what you have,
Selflessness & reciprocity was never too much to ask,
Unless you ask the wrong one, it really was so sad,
To witness this friendship start to fade and turn out so bad.

So... I guess you’ll go your way and I’ll go mine,
At the end of the day, I know we’ll both be alright.
Universe is making room for something more,
Lessons were to be learned & now we’re opening new doors.
With new roads to travel, leading us on our own way,
Roads we just can’t take together at the end of the day.
