The Confrontation
The Confrontation
Erin drives silently down the road towards the catholic church.
Anger burns in her eyes as bright as a torch.
Her poor boy, abused by the father right under her nose.
How many more boys has he victimized, no one knows.
The catholic church is getting ready to relocate the disgraced father.
He should be arrested, but the police don’t seem to want to bother.
Her poor son, traumatized for life!
Erin will teach the bastard a lesson with a razor-sharp knife.
She must do right by her son.
A knife will hurt even more than a bullet to the head by a gun.
Erin looks over to her left to come eye to eye with the strange man.
He smiles at Erin and nods in approval of her plan.
He helped talk her into it of course,
but managed to present himself as a very reliable source
with insider knowledge the police were going to let the father scape out of town
and be placed in a new church with a shiny new crown.
True of course since he arranged for the father to be moved as well.
The last place he wants him is locked in a tiny, cold cell.
Erin reaches the catholic church and pulls into the parking lot.
Slamming the car into park, she leaps out of the car even more eager to confront the priest then she thought.
The strange man lingers behind as she power walks up to the church’s front doors.
The father has no idea she is coming to settle the score.
Erin slowly opens the front door and quietly makes her way inside.
Its dark, quiet and eerie feeling inside, has a feeling that someone recently died.
The father’s soul died a long time ago, Erin is convinced of that.
Not only lost his soul, lost his body as over the years he has gotten fat.
Erin slowly begins walking deeper into the church not hearing a sound.
To her relief, no one is around.
Except the father, he is here somewhere quietly preparing his exit.
Everyone else in the church has decided to keep their distance from him, not wanting any part of his final segment.
Erin reaches an intersection of hallways and looks down the hallway to her right.
At the end of the hallways, she notices a suspicious sight.
A light is visible underneath a closed door.
It’s the office of the father, a room that will soon go down in lore.
He must be inside packing up the last of his things.
Instead of a fresh start, it’s the grim reaper that is about to ring.
Erin slowly approaches the door and stops in front of it.
She’s nervous, but has made it this far, now is not the time to quit.
The places her hand on the knob and slowly begins to turn it, still nervous.
She wonders how many people will show up at this man’s funeral service,
as the door slowly swings open revealing the father with his back turned to Erin, packing up a few bags.
He’s about to find himself in a body bag.
Erin walks into the room shutting the door behind her.
Bad shit is about to occur.
“Hello father, I see you are being transferred to a new town with new boys to prey on.
You should be locked up in a cold cell until the sun rises on your final dawn.
It’s wrong of the catholic church to protect pedophiles and allow them to carry on their abuse.
Its sad that your sudden removal from the church and relocation won’t even be covered in the news.”
The father turns and stares at Erin in silence.
He’s afraid to speak thinking anything he says will incite violence.
“Nothing to say to me father?
No excuse or apology, that too much of a bother?”
“Erin, you won’t accept an apology for me we both know that.”
“Yeah, you are right father, I’m not here for an apology.
I wish I could say I was simply here to debate astrology,
but that is not the case.
What I’m here to do, just like what you did to my son, lacks any kind of grace.”
Erin, now frowning and looking at the father angerly, takes out a razor-sharp knife she has hidden and begins playing around with it in front of him.
The father’s eyes shoot open realizing he’s about to become her victim.
“You won’t want to kill me Erin, as much as you think you do right now.”
“I want you to pay for what you did to my son!
I understand living with the fact I killed you won’t be fun,
but it will be worth it knowing you won’t be allowed to hurt anymore children.
Killing you doesn’t make me the bad person here; you are already the villain.
Being allowed to leave and start your life over some place new is not something I can stand by and let happen.
Not even if a single person comes to my defense clapping,
I’ll still live out my life knowing I did the right thing.
You don’t deserve freedom; you deserve to swing!”
Erin begins to walk towards the father with her knife held high,
However, the father cannot look her in the eye.
His attention is brought to who stands behind her smiling at him.
It’s the strange man who begins urging him to sing one final hymn.
The father looking at the strange man asks, “you brought her here to kill me?
After you promised me you had my back and would allow me to flee?
You convinced me it was ok to do what I did to those boys!”
The strange man continues to smile hearing excuses and noise.
“Where you are going father, I will see you there soon.
Now please excuse me as I go look at tonight’s full moon.”
As the strange man departs, the father’s attention is brought back to Erin,
Who plunges her knife into his heart before any more grievances can begin airing.
The life fades from the father’s eyes, as his body falls to the ground dead.
Erin turns around to leave, the color in her face quickly becoming less red.
