You'd Like to Return This Item Sir? I Need a Receipt Please

I was always expected to be a rule follower first and foremost, to be good at school, to be smart, to be well learned, to be quiet, and obedient, but in a sort of lead-by-example pedestal-ization.
I was placed as the gold standard for all things holy, and I was expected to be attractive, charming, funny, witty, well put together and well thought out, kind, generous, perfect.
And I tried so hard to be these things. I had to make sure I gave out what people expected from me.
And their shallow praise was heaped on me in reward: this was my treasure, to receive their accolades.
I was expected to take them and smile, and be good.

It's all very limiting! And what is expected back in return, they've already decided for you, so you can't even ask for anything more. "Look, we already gave you a trophy. What more could you ask for?"

What more could you possibly expect. Isn't that peachy.
