Convergence

Have you ever had one of those dreams
In the middle of the night
When it’s dark
When chills taunt your restless vessel
When shadows from your mind project themselves a playwright on your walls
and ceiling
Sealing you into a prism of fear?

Have you ever heard that voice
In the middle of the night
When it’s silent
When it’s still
Whispering your worst thoughts
to the rhythm of a war-drum-heartbeat
racing inside the cage of your chest?

Have you ever woken from terror
Found it spilled over reality’s table
Where the monsters of your nightmares
grin, smirk and snarl their sharpened teeth
at you?
Where the danger is not just a thought
In the dark
But alive and well
Basking in the light
Walking around
Without its mask
Proudly
Arrogantly
Freely

To dream is to visit the familiar made strange
Opening a door to the mind to work itself through the labyrinth of our troubles, hopes
and fears
To wake is to have the chance at a better day
Having walked through the miles
of our silent luggage
weighing heavy

When that fails
We must wake
We must clench our fists through slumber
Arrive ready to take on the spill
To face the convergence
We must claw our way through our prisms of terror and silence the monsters
Let the war drums in the cages of our chests
Lead the way to a better day
To reclaim our dreams
To change this reality

The masks are off
The monsters are open game
We know their names
And with that we have dominion
