The First One

We met that day.
I then began to pay.
You looked at me.
But I couldn't see.
What you truly are.
My trust went too far.
I received your abuse.
From your short fuse.
I gave you my all anyway.
Even if I wanted to say.
When I began to melt.
How the pain felt.
I didn't have the power.
All I did was cower.
The seeds were sown.
Because I couldn't be alone.
I yearned to be your friend.
Feeling myself bend.
Way over the limit for you.
The way I always do.
Even then I didn't let go.
All that time you didn't know.
Into our friendship, I poured my soul.
I never did meet my goal.

Author's Note
This poem is about my first bullying experience. About the feelings of being used by someone who I wanted to befriend. I tried to put powerful feelings into it.
My heart goes out to anyone who has been treated this way.
