Don't Let It Linger

You want to let it linger
Think you can mould it with your fingers
Like we’re a crumbling clay creation
In sensory depravation

And you think that you can fix it
Take the clay, just knead and mix it
When the burning times don’t mesh
And these wounds are far from fresh

‘Cause you never expected us to break
Or this love, I would forsake
When we’re meant to be a matching set
Soul mates now crumbling with regret

And I don’t want to let it linger
Or let the kiln melt and burn my fingers
With a history that can’t be undone
Discolouring in the harsh-lit sun

‘Cause I know that we can’t fix it
Can’t take the clay and mix it
Turn out new original creations
When the clay’s cracked in aggravation

And I never expected us to break
Or the high road I would take
When we’re both so imperfect
Both tainted with lives of regret

So my love, don’t let it linger
Or try to fix it and break a finger
Just let the clay break and shatter
‘Cause in the end we don’t really matter
