Image for the poem With you

With you

To throw snowballs at one another
on a crisp summer’s day
at Steamboat Springs.

To watch the Aurora Borealis
in a northern Icelandic fjord
on a cold September night.

To see the sunrise at Kalae‘ili‘ili
then hike to watch the Waihe‘e Stream
rush into the sea.

To see the sunset over the Trocadéro
from the summit
of the Eiffel Tower.

To eat dates at the Siwa Oasis
as we picnic
in the Egyptian sun.

To drive the Ring of Kerry
or see the Cliffs of Moher
on a clear day.

To watch the polar bears
travel the ice flows
off the coast of Kaktovik.

To do all of these things
would be hollow and barren,
if I could not do them

with you.
