she is
a pastel petal
or a watercolor painting
still damp with hues
that drip
florets so sweetly delicate
fragile as a monarch
with patchy scales
fluttering as she smiles
sensitive and secluded
her heart sheltered
under thorny guard
but oh, the aroma she bears
when one stops to water
her pastel petals
shaming every rose
that dare grow in her garden
