Trying to Remember

Hey old man what is it you're trying to remember
A day long gone, a day long surrendered
The hangman has tied your tongue
But left clouds in your eyes to fly for fun
Far  away from this cold dead winter
Hey old man, what is it you're trying to remember?

Old man, the stories inside your silence grow
Some are better left to remain untold
But others dance and slide inside your stare
Spinning simple smiles is all you  share
Of a day from a long time ago
Old man, a day for only you to know

It seems you’ve found a place you want to stay
Forgoing handfuls of tomorrows for that one yesterday
So let this daydream bring you to  rest
To that day you lived, when at your best
Old man, there is nothing left to say
Just go to the place you want to stay
