ANDROMEDA AND PERSEUS
Andromeda and Perseus
met in circumstance curious:
she was chained naked to a rock
with fetters beyond all unlock.
He'd fell in love, tinged with pity
at sight of her captivity,
with the princess at the first sight
while on post-mission return flight.
He, on winged heels, with Gorgon's head
on one of his hands, promptly sped
to kill the monster that would eat
her as a sacrifice complete.
Having by that way saved her life
then set her free, made her his wife.
I have just noticed recently
they married INTERRACIALLY.
For father of Andromeda
was king of Ethiopia.
Perseus would have been lighter
in tone of skin, that Greek fighter.

Imagine meeting one's wife like this! Roused by recently reading the story and recalling the many artistic images down the ages of Andromeda. This Wikipedia picture engraving after Abraham van Diepenbeeck illustrates what may have been her likely complexion.

Recalling pictures of a Victorian Andromeda figure made by an English ironworks, it dawns on me there may have been an erotic appeal to male owners....

This is an excellent poem, Solomon. I'd like to see more in this vein from you. Boy, that is nothing like what 'Clash of the Titans' portrayed. :)
