Once Again

once again
the claws are upon me
their talons piercing fragile pride
needling muscle striving to do good
scrapes opening to become wounds
till bone stands strong
erect as a mountain
pumping its chest to the wind

yeah
go ahead and take my flesh
devour my accruals
to feed your carnivorous monsters
enjoy the banquet
as you feast upon the net of my labors
it’s a playground
for reptiles
