new seasons in the sun—blind man's soliloquy

"Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to
behold the sun..."—Ecclesiastes 11:7 KJV

i
lend me my eyes
that I may see the sea
once more
then you can take them back
señor
for they belong to thee
as do my sighs

ii
give me a glance
if haply I may be
more sure
the one thing that I lack
tho poor
is not my sanity
in this vile dance

iii
should circumstance
my sight withhold from me
e’ermore
my burdens ne’er shall crack
the core
of my sweet liberty
i shall advance

iv
till I behold
an innocent child's face
a smile
that I might memorise
awhile
an episode of grace
and peace untold

v
sweep me along
where burn love’s transient dreams
unfold
new seasons in the sun
behold
life is not what it seems
despite my drang

vi
I face the gloom
that I may find the light
the song
is not the singing lark
erelong
the eye is not the sight
nor death the tomb
