I didn't cry, but one book which made me profoundly sad was Edith's Diary by Patricia Highsmith.  
 
Which book would you never have on your bookshelf?  
 
The Pink Swastika: Homosexuality in the Nazi Party by Scott Lively and Kevin Abrams.  
 
Which book are you reading at the moment?
 
Beloved by Toni Morrison.  
 
Which book would you give as a present to a friend?
 
Ariel by Sylvia Plath.  
 
Which other writers do you admire?  
 
Daniel Clowes, Patricia Highsmith, Graham Greene.  
 
Which classic have you always meant to read and never got round to it?
 
No particular book springs to mind. I want to read everything but never get round to it.

What is the worst book you have ever read?  
 
Anything by James Patterson.

Agatha Christie. For years I dreamed of being a detective novelist.  
 
What is your favourite time of day to write?
 
Any time of day I feel like writing.  
 
And favourite place?
 
Anywhere with tables and chairs.  
 
Longhand or word processor?
 
Word processor mostly, though I like writing longhand in cafes and libraries.

William Shakespeare.  
 
Which book have you found yourself unable to finish reading?  

The Nursing Home Murder by Ngaio Marsh. It wasn't even technically bad, just stunningly devoid of life and personality.  
 
What is your favourite word?  
 
Lacerate.
