What is Fate

I wake before the dawn and share the night with the stars
Though I don’t claim to know the night so well
Save where it leads my mind to wander...
Yet, too soon from dreams
To wakefulness
My thoughts flow and coalesce on the timeless currents
Of the ancient deep

Before the coming of the sun
There is a stillness that causes all in silence to move
And I stare in wonder
Half in hope and half in prayer
At the feeling touching my soul this hour
And gives me pause to say

Who am I?

Surely life’s fateful lessons
Triumphs and trials
Have shaped me to some certain purpose
I know the beauty of whispers that sound as echoes in the gray before dawn
For they tell of you
The dream of my heart
And I have been adrift and lost in this sea of souls too long

What is it to fall asleep with someone on your mind
And to wake to their memory again in the morning
As if the moment never passed

One day a man awakens to find a woman has become the realization of a dream he didn't know he had

How often have I been torn
Is their one with whom I could share my truths
The secrets of my soul
For all the truths about me are not beautiful
And I fear to drive away
The beauty that is you

And so in my fears
Better a thousand dreams that can never be
Than the waking moment which tells me no
For what would I say
I have lost the day but night falls
And the stars appear
And all goes on as before
Save me
I remain in a past that had you
A past that was a dream

I wish I had the words
Yet words are betrayers
What could they tell anyhow
Some things can’t be framed by words

What is your name soft spoken by me but the shouted whisper of desire

If I could speak to your heart
What would I say
Words
Words imagine they could tell all things
But could words tell a kiss half so well
As our lips
Yours
And mine
In the meeting

And there’s the rub
How shall we meet - if we meet at all
Save in truth

Can you forgive what you’ve never known
And can I forget what I’ve known too long

I don’t know how to take the chance
Yet fate keeps bringing me back to you

What is fate
Beneath the vast circumference of the heavens
Was it chance we met or fate
And chance or fate that brings us back
We move in circles
You and I
Intersecting in a dance of lives
Written in the stars

Can you draw the poison from my wounds
For I would have the word love written upon my heart
With each touch of your lips to mine
Their every straying to cheek or neck the sweetest cursive

This is the word I would know
And it’s only telling

For I leave work and the sun's gone down
And stars appear
Those preludes to my dreams
Where you live and move til dawn

What deepening dream is this sweet gift of the night
To forget the stars
For the heaven found within your eyes
Each kiss a tongue of passions flame
Which like all fires
Seeks heedless to consume
And I would devour you with desire
Which knows only the desperate longing to be quenched
With each kiss –
Scattered and breathless on your face and lips
As if I could never get enough

Help me to find the words to find my way to you

For dreams are the unspoken hopes the heart sings
While searching among memories
To create the perfect day
And what day would be perfect without you
What dreams does stir me and you’re not there
