Gravedigger

its a lot of
work
to dig a grave

especially
if it’s
your own

we dig
a shovelful
of soil

with each choice
we make
in life

the riskier the choice
the deeper
the hole

we can make
easy
choices

dig a
shallow
hole

to occupy
many
years from now

or take
some risks
have some

adventures
possibly
die sooner

but
buried
deeper

remembered for
generations or forgotten
in an instant

it’s
your
choice

be
forgotten
somewhere

in a
shallow
grave

bones
dug up and
scattered by predators

or
be
remembered

celebrated with
stories of your
vibrant life

buried deep
beneath massive
gravestones

where you
will be
safe
