Wonderful Surprise

i could be described as

physically old
is sixty really old or is it relative

when i was thirteen
thirty seemed old

now twice thirty
ancient decrepit over-the-hill

i could be described as

emotionally adolescent
psychologically growing

i could be described as

wise in my
spiritual infancy

i could be described as

consistently grounded
intermittently centered

i could be described as

intellectually mature
socially awkward

financially stable
professionally secure

i could be described as

conservatively liberal
chaotically organized

i could be described as

compliant controlling
cowardly heroic

i could be described as

any and
all
of the above

isn’t it interesting
that we can have
so many facets

isn’t it a wonderful surprise
when we discover
there can be

something deceptive evil
destructive
under the pretty surface
