you were passion and clean laundry and fancy lingo.

you...

were the long afternoons of wandering,
wondering about lust and prevention..

the daisies picked with good intentions,
dried now between pages of lost feelings.

you were that one summer day at the carnival in the valley
making me feel like a stupid kid in love.

we warped our bodies and rode in fake cars,
playing our little game and taking too much pride in it.

you were late night movie theaters, back row, middle seats
cursing whoever sat in front of us, because we couldn't put our feet up.

you were the hole in my pocket that all my money fell out of
and you were the feelings that made me not care about that.

you were the 3am phone calls that made my heart skip a beat
even if i had been talking to you all day.

you were passion and clean laundry and fancy lingo.
inappropriate public displays of affection and strawberry shampoo.

you were tickle fights and stolen kisses. stolen mittens
and late-night lies with long drives to your side.

you were finding out what jealousy was,
and realizing that I can't trust everyone.

you were lust and senseless voice mail messages and selfishness
the taste of smoke and well-delivered bullshit on your lips.

you were the feeling of being unwanted and bitter.
you were secrets and ugly text messages to ugly girls.

you were the kid who destroyed my sand castles,
and wouldn't go puddle jumping with me.

you were so many tears and passive aggressive arguments
based on misdirected misunderstandings.

you were me, feeling truly happy.
you were me, feeling like dirt.

who you are now is something abstract.
lost somewhere in the pages of daisies and hurtful actions.

but basically, we are still who we were.
we are still different kinds of children.

me, building sandcastles for my own amusement,
and you, launching driftwood missiles to destroy them.

both equally worthy endeavors.
just not ones that work so well together.[/font]
