Image for the poem charcoal dawn

charcoal dawn

broken is the dawn, brittle and dark
with a heavy heart I beseech her
shine on me no more with your black sun

hateful is the day that ushered in pain
the horizon colored charcoal grey
somber in his overcast delusion
mocked my loneliness

I looked heavenward and cursed
I entreat you not to sully my mood further
when in aggravation I descend to my dark place

depression ruled frustration gloried
I sulked for my pitiful state
I paced my shadow stalked me

I challenged the sun
cast not your light upon my anger
I stirred wrath, chewed its bitter root
incurred conviction

I pray thee lord turn back the clock
let the dawn bring what it will
if you prepare the way

I will obey
