SALVATION
in all those years
when he had the chance
jesus never took me to the river
never
said a word
never
gifted me
the light
of salvation
or
made me whole
or healed my
affliction
or sent my demons
airborne
in the bodies
of wild pigs
i watched
the smiles of those who knew him
and wondered how
and wanted
what they had
and prayed
and prodded
and even pretended
but his spirit
if it existed
sailed right past
and left me sitting in the pew
barren
as that old wood --
an indication
that my sins
are simply mine
and the price of redemption
tangible
as a bed of rocks
when he had the chance
jesus never took me to the river
never
said a word
never
gifted me
the light
of salvation
or
made me whole
or healed my
affliction
or sent my demons
airborne
in the bodies
of wild pigs
i watched
the smiles of those who knew him
and wondered how
and wanted
what they had
and prayed
and prodded
and even pretended
but his spirit
if it existed
sailed right past
and left me sitting in the pew
barren
as that old wood --
an indication
that my sins
are simply mine
and the price of redemption
tangible
as a bed of rocks

Takes time... perhaps it was felt that the time for redemption had not come. Hard for me to believe given the depth of your writing in the past... patience my love. :-)

this reminded me of a time in my youth where i got baptised at every church my parents sent me and my siblings to (they never went with us) because of wanting what everyone else said they received.
Very well expressed poetically!

Thanks, Tallen.
Some folks make faith look really good.
I always wondered if those wouldn't be smiling anyway -- had they not been saved. Just happy people who happen to be in the church.
Mine would likely be a more somber, introverted display of faith.
Kneeling on concrete or something.
It's the catholic upbringing.

Poignant ink indeed J. I'm not a religious person...I'm a Philosopher...but I have studied "religions"...The kingdom of heaven is within you...take up thy bed and walk...then of course, powerful men took over his teachings and turned them into what we have today.

I must admit, as I get older, I think more and more about the, big guy, in the sky.
Nice write, thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Pots.
I don't know if anyone is up there or not. But I'm thinking "not."

Thanks for reading and commenting.
There are so many with our experience both outside and inside the church.
It was liberating to let it go.
Thanks again.
