Motherhood

Selfless, unconditional love.
Feeding someone else before yourself.
Feeling inadequate, and yet for them omniscient.
Being detached but always trying to be present.
Recognising your fear, channeling to protection.
Seeing mistakes you have made and then making them lessons.
Knowing that you'd give your life in an instant.
Understanding your own mother, and her words of wisdom.
Making decisions you never want to.
Overwhelmed by the weight that now sits on your shoulders.
Hearing her cry in the dead of the night, and then sitting for hours as she wants you to hold her.
Selfless, unconditional love.

I wrote this the night before my daughter's 3rd birthday, thinking about what it meant to me to be her mum.
