EVERYTHING I NEED TO KNOW I LEARNED FROM BOB DYLAN

when i was
fourteen years old
i listened to bob dylan’s
greatest hits
every day
for months –
that same record
sat spinning on the turntable
my parents bought me
the christmas before
until i’d memorized
every nuanced growl
and twang,
every wail
and tender nasal moan
and knew in my heart
that the answer, my friend,
is a-blowin’
in the wind

and that
once upon a time
she dressed so fine
but most importantly
that i should not feel
so all alone

‘cause
everybody

must

get

stoned

Author's Note
Quotation marks seemed to stifle the flow (honest to god there is a flow) so I posted the direct quotes in italics.
Quotes are from the songs Blowin’ In The Wind, Like A Rolling Stone, and Rainy Day Women #12 & 35, all by Bob Dylan.
I recognize that this doesn't mean I co-wrote this with Bob.
All writing remains the property of the author. Don't use it for any purpose without their permission.
