Notes From An Absence
I fell from favour
diminished over time
and the world spun
too quickly
for me to hold on
And I let go
to see what would happen
and the bottleneck of thoughts
continued to plug me
into an awareness
I needed to see
I missed so many faces,
and the spoils of generous praise
and still I couldn't believe it
about myself
until I stripped it all down
to get to the core
And it's still taking time
But my departure
was never personal
just a trip I needed to go on
I thought of so many of you
but I couldn't be
the skipping record
of a worn out tune
diminished over time
and the world spun
too quickly
for me to hold on
And I let go
to see what would happen
and the bottleneck of thoughts
continued to plug me
into an awareness
I needed to see
I missed so many faces,
and the spoils of generous praise
and still I couldn't believe it
about myself
until I stripped it all down
to get to the core
And it's still taking time
But my departure
was never personal
just a trip I needed to go on
I thought of so many of you
but I couldn't be
the skipping record
of a worn out tune
