Notes From An Absence

I fell from favour
diminished over time
and the world spun
too quickly
for me to hold on

And I let go
to see what would happen
and the bottleneck of thoughts
continued to plug me
into an awareness
I needed to see

I missed so many faces,
and the spoils of generous praise
and still I couldn't believe it
about myself
until I stripped it all down
to get to the core

And it's still taking time

But my departure
was never personal
just a trip I needed to go on

I thought of so many of you
but I couldn't be
the skipping record
of a worn out tune
