Mexican Restaurant To Go
Mexican Restaurant To Go
She says, “We’ve been talking about you”
With her downward cast eyes
Breaking the six feet rule
She huddles close to me
What began as a casual encounter
Becomes intimate
With my, “I miss you”
She turns ecstatic
With a rainbow smile
And the words,
“Oh, I miss you too,
I can’t wait until all this is over with,
So we can talk more again.”
The words “I love you”
Not once escape my lips
But are implicitly there
Palpable as an embrace
For her to hear
She says, “We’ve been talking about you”
With her downward cast eyes
Breaking the six feet rule
She huddles close to me
What began as a casual encounter
Becomes intimate
With my, “I miss you”
She turns ecstatic
With a rainbow smile
And the words,
“Oh, I miss you too,
I can’t wait until all this is over with,
So we can talk more again.”
The words “I love you”
Not once escape my lips
But are implicitly there
Palpable as an embrace
For her to hear

Words cannot express my gratitude to you Jen, for understanding the nature of this encounter. I've been dining daily at this Mexican restaurant for three years now. This waitress has been probing into my past and all the details of my life going back decades. Once she was concerned about why my late wife and I divorced which indicated to my therapist that the waitress may have an interest in me. But now the inside of the restaurant is closed and she just gives food to customers outdoors. But I hadn't been to the place fo a week. And now we don't know what lies ahead for us, whether either of us will even be around in the months ahead. So in that way, it is as you said so aptly bittersweet. Her first words upon our reunion were, "We've been talking about you." I promised her copies of my books months ago which excited her. Yet my rationalization is that the books aren't ready when really I don't know how she'll react to the contents.

She is from Honduras. I recall one of our first encounters. She was wearing a racy outfit and leaned over my table to wipe it down. My eyes couldn't resist gazing at her cleavage. So she stopped wiping and just hovered there smiling at me. LOL

Indeed longing for intimacy is what this poem is all about. Thank you for your bullseye observation.
