A Drifter's Regret

Shattered mirrors reflect deserts of serenity
Laid to waste by the temper of misfortune

Pity responds to the call of whimpering tragedy
As it attempts to crack the riddle of a fading era

A nomad's reprieve of November's sun
Is trapped within this fractured pursuit
Thorns embrace his blooming Autumn

Beware of the evening's lurking grimace
A sincere glance masks its somber intent

An ode from a silent, hollow voice is sung
Heard around the world of a distant fool
Melodies creep within a slumbering mind
Empty words chanted to an absent public
Stray serenades wander about desolation

Never in a million years did I suspect
To be the subject of nature's neglect
Could even my awaken soul suspect
To be chastised as a drifter's regret?
