Red Silky Cape
I remember I was seven or eight...
My aunt, who was 12 years older than me
She had been a cheerleader in her teens
and she kept her old uniform
Which came with a red silky cape.
The year was 1981, or 82
It was sometime after Superman II had come out
I got a hold of my aunt’s old red silky cape,
And I ran around the neighborhood like I was Superman.
All the kids (even the older ones) ran around with me,
Wishing that they could have a cape like mine.
Their parents asked my grandmother,
Where they could get red cape like mine.
But she didn't remember,
She had bought it some 10 years before.
One time I leaped from the roof of my house,
(Thank God I didn’t hurt myself).
But I always had a great time
Wearing that red silky cape.
My grandmother had grown tired of it.
So to deter me from using it again
Used it as a snot rag.
Oh what a fond memory.
