Who Am I?
Who am I? I ask myself.
A biomechanical machine?
A conglomerate of chemicals:
Of flesh and bone and dreams.
Is there more to me than eye can see?
Does self extend beyond the skin?
Will my soul live on eternally
To see another life again?
What if this is my only chance,
To pass this test of life, I'm taking?
And this finale of the flesh —
My grand opus in the making.
When all that's left are memories,
The only legacy I've left behind,
I ask that you remember me
And there I'll be, inside your mind.

Thanks, Wh1skey... I have been missing this community! I've been preoccupied with other things going on in my life and haven't had much time to write poetry lately. Thanks for the warm greeting, friend :)
I hope you are doing well!

Oooh, that is good to hear 😊
I suppose I’ll have to head over to the gallery to see what you’ve been up to, then!
Work, work, work. That's life, eh? It’s too bad we all can’t be professional writers for a living, lol.

Dear NB,
Your last stanza is fantastic. I’ve considered this very idea after I’ve long turned to dust. It would-be nice to be remembered.
It’s wonderful to see you back! You have been missed. H🌷

That is what writing is truly about the exchange of thoughts and experiences and wisdom and knowledge between strangers who become friends with different points of view...respect

You pack so much into this short poem. I love it. You pose the difficult questions and possible answers. Then, in the end you fallback on the immortality of memory--which we can count on being real. Loved it!

The thing is: you are...
And every day that you are, is another life that can be.
Every day is a new life.
With each new life, memories are carried from the life before.
Wrapped inside this biological machine of chemicals, you are. For now.
And every day that you are, is another life that can be.
Every day is a new life.
With each new life, memories are carried from the life before.
Wrapped inside this biological machine of chemicals, you are. For now.
