POETRY AND RELIGION
I experience deepest thoughts through verse.
It connects my mind with thoughts quite pure.
What can take me to a realm like that
save its words that should pass through my soul?
Poetry, you've taught me how to live
with my soul that yearns to none but God.
You involve me in the sphere of joy
which transfers me to the holy sky.
Verse, you have a charm that none can have;
it's a trance that takes the spirit up.
You endow me bliss that one can't live
if he is not pure and free from guilt.

If, as you say, verse has "a charm that none can share", how is it that you partake of it as you claim you do?

that what is said in poetry
reveals to me the means
by which my vast desire
to be home housed within the sky
may be a thing
that’s finally satisfied.
But is this true
of lines set out by amateurs
by those who break the rules
for writing sensibly?
Do they possess such lifting power
despite the fact
that from the point of sparkling speech
they’re turgid, uninspired, and sour
to the eye and ear?
If I say yes, what is my claim?
That even execrable verse
and poetry that’s not the best
can wing me up into
the ream that I proclaim
so Gnostically,
is mankind’s final rest?
If so, let me continue then
to read some of the things
that others post upon my page
and not complain about
how to my eyes
their work is nothing less than drear.
