I Truly Love You
The day can pile up
all of its woes upon me:
The sover, thirsty head,
unhappy lover,
the workplace.
Every expensive medical problem,
the bank balance,
testing conversations
that fly too closely
to the ear.
All of this can happen
as it just has,
but then I open Fante's
'Full of Life'
and read a few pages.
The sensation is the same
as it always is with him:
The smile across my face,
the desire to laugh out loud,
the discovery of sense amidst the madness.
It all comes so quickly,
so easily.
He is the opposite
of all my woes
whilst he covers
every one.
I stare down at the book
on the floor
with true
unconditional love.
Buskowski was right,
he is a god.
