Thank you Ahavati. Moving Pictures was my first cassette tape, I was constantly amazed by his drumming. Then listening to the lyrics made me realize how deep he was into literature. He was an avid reader and it showed in his work.
Very thoughtful ode. Was there a particular event for you as a youngster that drew you to this band? I ask because as a teen I loved The Doors but, as an adult I don’t recall why! I never understood any of the lyrics I could hear. Actually, If I cop the truth it’s mostly because this boy I dug liked them so I figured if I liked them too we’d have something in common.😉 (It was an unqualified disaster-he never noticed me😩) oh well. Your write sparked some fond memories for me and your format and accompanied picture are wonderful. H🌷
I remember the summer '85 listening to the radio, being hooked on Red Barchetta because the drumming was phenomenal. A couple of years later when I go the Moving Pictures cassette, I fell more in love with the lyrics. By the time I learned to play drums, musicians always talked about who was the best drummer in rock in those days. Neil was always mentioned. He suffered some tragedies in the mid 90s and I think that's where I came to admire him even more.
