The Art of Life: Genetics
Nature.
A preserved template
for a forgotten history.
Four repeated,
four to complete it,
Scribbled in codes of three.
You silence the codes
that lead to deletion.
But keep it written within me.
Why do you give us the answers,
If the question isn't complete?
We can't understand, yet, what you mean.
Are we only messengers for thee?
With brothers of the same burden:
every bird, and every tree?
Why must we pass on
the secrets that you keep?
And why is the exchange of life
a required part of the plan,
that we are obligated to agree?
To live on,
only in the code,
and only if we pass it
along to the next.
Help me draw the map
so that I understand,
For you are the giant
on whose shoulders I want to stand.

Author's Note
This is something I scribbled down September 2019, NewB's new poem made me remember it.
It is only half-hearted in a rhyming pattern, but I'm okay with that.
It's about Genetics.
There's only ATGC,
different combinations of those four letters come together in triplets that make amino acids, that make proteins, which make up everything in every living creature's body.
DNA is like the instructions in a cookbook that contains all of the different recipes for life.
Only 2% of the human genome codes for making functional proteins, the rest are for turning sections of that 2% on/off, providing extra protection from mutation, etc.
How fascinating is it, the simplicity of existence, when you get down to the core? It is beautiful.

Re: Re. The Art of Life
Thanks! I really appreciate your comment 🙂
I was worried about posting it because I thought it might be one of those things that only biologist type people would really understand 😕
I'm currently working with manipulating and cloning a protease from a specific strand of bacterial DNA, I'm humbled by how simple yet incredibly complex it is, that's kind of where the inspiration came from.
Idk. Thank you so much for reading!! 🌹

Well done Scribbles. The art of our biological make-up is a masterpiece of engineering (in my opinion).

You're so incredibly right, SerenitySongs!
We're designed to suit this rock we're on, and yes, how different we could have been (and have been), and will be in the future!
I ponder on this all of the time!!
And that usually leads to thinking about how we are quite a conundrum, the natural order of the universe is always increasing in entropy (basically disorder).
Ordered is always moving to disorder.
But, when you dissect it, doesn't that just mean that there is no such thing as disorder?
Much like there is no such thing as cold...only an absence of heat.
And heat is always moving in the direction of cold but cold cannot move in the direction of heat, without putting in a substantial amount of energy, thus increasing entropy because there is no such thing as 100% energy efficient ANYWHERE in the universe!
So, on the same train, how in the world, and why, does the universe "appear" to create disorder, much like things "appear" cold to us?
The additive is heat, like the additive is order
Not sure why I tie these two concepts together...they just feel so closely related (i guess, technically, they are because of being part of the same closed system that operates by a consistent set of rules).
Yet, main stream still teaches that there is both order and disorder?
Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to go on a marathon race with this thought, 😔 (stress byproduct).
But I'm glad your comment inspired my brain to get to thinkin'. ❤

Some of us need stimulation of the brain more so than others, I guess you fit right into that category perfectly 👌🤗
Nothing at all wrong with being expressive and opinionated, either right or wrong, opinions are what make us who we all are
I love you thinking ways PS

Very original and creative. Believe in yourself. This was an enriching write.
All form rises from and returns to the formless. What seems solid is tight orbits of electromagnetically bonded energy. The vast majority of the interior of an atom is, to our current understanding, empty space. Sciences are arriving at understandings that spiritual traditions have long held, about the conscious will of the universe. The earth grows people, says Alan Watts. This is our starship. 🙏🏻💖

Thank you, Daniel, so much. ❤
I'm really glad that you took the time to read and that you saved my work to your RL.
I love listening to Alan Watts! He always finds a way of grounding me back to reality with his inspired wisdom.
Over the next few months I won't be able to log in or write nearly as much but I will keep your encouragement with me and I look forward to reading your poems and comments again.
Have a wonderful and beautiful New Year, you are a very kind, thoughtful, and memorable person. ❤

Oh, dear sunsettown, thank you so much!😊
I love adding a philosophical angle to my work, somehow it adds so much potential and so much life. ❤
I hang out more in the biological arena...chemistry is my biggest frienemy,
it's a very love-hate relationship. I admire it, but it doesn't make me happy the same way biology does *sigh*
Thank you for the RL save! ❤❤❤❤
It made me smile to see when I logged back on! 😁

It was a very well written poem that made me really think. It was very unique and had such a beautiful feeling to it. I enjoyed it and thought the questions in life are always fun to try to figure out. I'm always looking for answers.

We are all certainly looking for answers!
Life is fascinating, the day I stop asking is the day my soul dies.
Thank you for your wonderful comment, I appreciate your thoughts very much and I am honored to make your RL. ❤
